Radiographic Testing

Radiography is a method of Non-destructive testing by which electrons are fired onto a tungsten target inside an x-ray tube, resulting in ionizing radiation in the form of x-rays, which can penetrate through various solid materials for inspection of internal flaws or discontinuities.

When the X-rays pass through the material and are exposed onto light-sensitive film they produce a radiograph, an internal and external image that can then be inspected by a trained technician.

We have 3 radiographic pens each offering:

  • 300kv CP unit, penetrating up to 40mm of steel
  • 150kv Cup unit with beryllium window. Penetrating 1-15mm of
  • A 220kv unit, penetrating 3-20mm of steel

And we can also provide assessment and interpretation of radiographs.

Radiography Inspections

Ultrasonic Testing

Ultrasonic inspection is the use of ultrasonic sound waves with frequencies of 0.5 – 10mhz to penetrate solid materials, looking for internal flaws or discontinuities.

We use GE equipment and our range comprises of USN60L, USN36L and ‘USM Go’.
Our equipment is capable of offering 0.5 – 10Mhz testing frequencies as well as offering testing on welds, plates, bars, and billets.

Ultrasonic Inspection

Magnetic Particle Inspection

Magnetic particle inspection is a form of non-destructive testing which utilises magnetic fields to identify surface and sub-surface discontinuities in ferrous materials. Two methods of magnetic particle inspection include white colour contrast, ideal for daylight and site work. The other using Ultra Violet light

We provide both an ultraviolet method systems as well as the black and white contrast method and our equipment comprises of:

  • Static bench units up to 3000 amps AC/DC.
  • Portable bench units up to 1500 amps AC/DC.
  • Yokes & Permanent magnets.

This service is available for a wide range of components and industries.

Magnetic Particle Inspection

Dye Penetrant Inspection

Dye penetrant inspection is a method of non-destructive testing through using fluorescent and non-fluorescent penetrants to inspect surface breaking defects in non-porous materials. It can be used on ferromagnetic and non-ferromagnetic components.

  • We provide U.V dip tank system.
  • Water washable and post emulsifiable colour contrast system.
  • Water and solvent removable.
